makes 7 dozen cookies
Perfect for teas … delicate caramel cookies with browned butter frosting.
- ¾ cup butter
- ½ cup brown sugar, firmly packed
- 1 tbsp granulated sugar
- 1 egg yolk
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 1¾ to 2 cups AP flour
- Almond Slivers
- Browned Butter Frosting
- Cream butter and sugars.
- Add egg yolk and vanilla, beat well.
- Blend in flour to form a stiff dough.
- Shape into balls about the size of a marble. Place on greased cookie sheets.
- Flatten to the size of 50 cent piece with the bottom of a glass dipped in sugar.
- Bake at 350° for 7-9 minutes until light golden brown. Cool and frost. Garnish with almond slivers.
Browned Butter Frosting
- ¼ cup butter
- 2½ cups sifted powdered sugar
- 1 tsp vanilla
- 3-4 tbsp cream
- Brown butter.
- Blend in sugar and vanilla.
- Gradually add cream until of spreading consistency.
