Christmas Stocking Cookies

makes 12 to 18 cookies

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt.
  2. Cream butter, gradually beat in sugar. Beat until well blended.
  3. Add egg, milk, lemon extract, and lemon peel, beat well.
  4. Stir in sifted ingredients a little at a time, blend well. Chill until firm.
  5. Roll out dough on a lightly floured board, a little at a time, ¼ inch thick. Cut with a stocking cutter and place on greased cookie sheets.
  6. Bake at 375°for 7 minutes, or until light brown. Remove from sheets and cool on rack.
  7. Decorate with icing, candy, and sprinkles.
