makes 7 to 8 dozen

  1. Sift together flour, baking powder, and salt. Add whole wheat flour and anise seeds.
  2. Cream butter. Add sugar, creaming well.
  3. Blend in dry ingredients with a for or pastry blender.
  4. Sprinkle 5 to 6 tbsp water over mixture, stirring with fork, until dough is moist enough to hold together.
  5. Roll out half at a time on floured surface to â…› inch thickness. Cut into squares, sticks, or triangles with pastry wheel or knife.
  6. Sprinkle with sugar. Place on greased cookie sheets.
  7. Bake at 350°for 14 to 17 minutes.
